Property values in Shelby County, Tennessee are reaching new heights causing property taxes to skyrocket along with them. Estimated assessments are expected to rise between 20 and 30 percent or higher and the new numbers can leave unprepared property owners in shock. As such, the Shelby County Assessor has proposed the traditional four-year reappraisal process be revamped to two-years to help soften the impact of these increases. According to News Channel 3 WREG, “The proposal is being evaluated by the Tennessee comptroller’s office, but officials said as the largest county in Tennessee, Shelby County could be setting a trend.”
